Accessibility
Published July 22, 2026 · Last reviewed July 22, 2026
eVotaré is committed to making its elections platform usable by everyone, including voters and administrators who rely on assistive technology. This statement describes how we approach accessibility, where we conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, and the known issues we are still working to close.
Our commitment
We build to WCAG 2.1 Level AA across both the voter-facing and administrative surfaces, so that a voter using assistive technology can cast a secret ballot independently. Accessibility is delivered through the same ballot everyone else uses — there is no separate "accessible mode," no second-class path, and no feature gated behind one. Keyboard operation, screen-reader labelling, focus order, and colour contrast are treated as part of the product, not an add-on.
Conformance status
eVotaré is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. "Partially conformant" means that most of the platform meets the standard, but some content does not yet fully conform — WCAG conformance is all-or-nothing for a given page, so while any known issue remains we do not claim to be fully conformant. We have completed a comprehensive remediation program and maintain conformance as an ongoing commitment, with the known exceptions listed below.
What we’ve done
In July 2026 we completed a code-level accessibility audit and remediation covering the entire web platform:
- the voter ballot flow — sign-in, casting, and results;
- the full administrative console — every screen used to run voters, sessions, elections, notifications, billing, and settings;
- the projector and results displays;
- the public site — sign-in, marketing, and legal pages; and
- notification emails.
We also shipped a site-wide colour-contrast pass, and automated accessibility checks (axe) run in our deployment pipeline so regressions are caught before release. Conformance to date is established through automated testing (axe / pa11y) and code-level review; the administrative surface was scanned across every route under a real authenticated session.
Scope of this statement
This statement applies to the eVotaré web application and the eVotaré marketing site. Our native mobile apps (iOS and Android) are not covered by this statement and will be assessed separately.
Known limitations
We are aware of the following limitations and are working to resolve them. If you encounter a barrier not listed here, please tell us (see below).
- Manual assistive-technology testing is scheduled but not yet complete. End-to-end testing of the ballot flow with NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, and TalkBack is planned; conformance to date is established through automated and code-level review.
- A few screens are verified by code review but not yet exercised end-to-end. The receipt-verification and voter multi-factor (one-time code) screens have been reviewed in code but not yet run through a full assistive-technology session.
- Custom tenant branding can affect header contrast. On an organization site that uses a very light custom brand colour, some header text (for example, the Sign-Out link on the branded header gradient) may not meet AA contrast. A contrast guard already protects body text, and we are extending it to more elements.
- Some third-party embedded content has not been fully evaluated — for example, a marketing demonstration animation embedded on the home page.
Compatibility
eVotaré is designed to work with recent versions of the following assistive technologies and with keyboard-only navigation:
- NVDA and JAWS (Windows);
- VoiceOver (macOS and iOS);
- TalkBack (Android); and
- keyboard-only operation, in current versions of major browsers.
